The sale of classical art at Campo & Campo includes a fine collection of old and 19th century paintings, furniture and curiosities.

The Classical Art Auction at Campo & Campo offers a nostalgic look back at times long gone, with silverware, handcrafted decorative objects, paintings by Old Masters, music boxes, furniture, 19th-century paintings and miscellaneous items.
A series of marble sculptures will be auctioned, including a beautiful 18th-century Italian bust of the weeping Greek philosopher Heraclitus. The expression that the sculptor managed to capture in the furrowed eyebrows is remarkable. The reference to his philosophy of “everything flows” makes the sculpture even more fascinating. Dimensions: 48 x 27 x 27 cm. Estimate: €15,000 to €20,000.
In a very different price category, but still worth mentioning, is a marble sculpture of Cleopatra by Ernest Battaglia, very conservatively estimated at €300 to €500, simply to indicate that there is something to be found for every budget. Among the Old Masters, there is a beautiful large hunting still life by Nicola Van Houbracken, oil on canvas, 147 x 196 cm, estimated at €8,000 to €12,000.
A 19th-century view of the Scheldt by Frans Hens (oil on canvas, 1878, 63 x 162 cm) is estimated at €5,000 to €7,000, as well as a marine with a view of Amsterdam by François Musin (oil on canvas, 46 x 75 cm, €3,500 to €5,000).
Furthermore, there is a series of paintings by, among others, Jan Van Beers, Fernand Toussaint, Henri De Braekeleer and Frans Mortelmans, to name just a few.
Many lots also take us into mythological stories, such as a bronze of a grasping satyr carrying off a nymph in a bacchanal, estimated at €800 to €1,200 (H. 74.5 cm, after Clodion). Also a rarity: an old violin attributed to the 18th-century violin maker Franz Placidus Fendt, estimated at €15,000 to €18,000.
