Anna Aagaard Jensen
Campo & Campo
In these times where many people only talk about the limitations, we want to focus on the possibilities. We no longer plan our exhibitions far in advance, but we see what crosses our path. By sitting on the sculpture of the young artist Anna Aagaard Jensen (DK ° 1991), we became fascinated by the whole feminist or even post-feminist concept in her work. No better time to announce her exhibition at Campo than International Women’s Day on March 8, 2021.
The label on the wall next to her designs is clear “Only women can sit on these chairs.” Controversial in these times of gender equality? As a woman you sit wide-legged in a pose that feels rather unnatural. Through observation of the guests in a ‘late night show’, the young designer saw how men systematically take up more space and women tend to sit in a more reserved position. She extended this to the phenomenon of ‘manspreading’ in public transportation. With her chairs she also alludes to the famous pose in the movie Basic Instinct.
The duality of the woman as seductress combined with the macho male pose: it is a theme we would love to discuss at length in a bar. But for now we hope to be able to discuss and philosophize this theme with the visitors of the exhibition.
Welcome from March 17 to April 30, 2021 from Monday to Saturday from 10 am to 6 pm
This exhibition is part of the project Women with Attitude @ Campo & Campo which will result, by the end of 2021, in an exhibition on women through the history of art from the 17th century to 1950.
The gallery will be closed during the Easter weekend (Saturday 3 to Monday 5 April 2021).
